First Time FAQs
Do I need to dress up?
At Lewis Center UMC, everyone is welcome to come just as they are. We are more concerned with real life issues than what you are wearing. Some people like to dress up, and others dress very casually. We encourage you to come the way that you feel most comfortable.
Do you have a separate program for children?
Yes. During the 10:30 worship hour, we offer age appropriate worship and learning experiences for preschool and elementary children, as well as nursery care for infants and toddlers. At our monthly contemporary service on Sunday evenings, we offer childcare for children up through age 5. Our children’s ministry staff and volunteers are trained to work with your children, and all have undergone background checks. You can rest assured that your children will be loved and taken care of in a safe, secure, and exciting environment designed just for them. And…just so you know…your children are always welcomed in worship with us. More information about LCUMC’s Children’s Ministry.
Do you have a youth service?
Yes. Reaching the next generation is a priority for our church. During the 10:30 worship hour, middle and high school students are invited to attend Encounter, a worship experience designed to meet them where they are and held inside our brand-new Youth Activities Center. More information about LCUMC’s Youth Program.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHERE TO GO ONCE I ARRIVE?
We want to make your first visit a great experience. On your first Sunday, head in the front doors. Let one of our greeters know it’s your first time, and we’ll make sure you know where to go – especially if you are coming with children. (Note: Our preschool and youth programs are located in buildings apart from the main worship center.)
SHOULD I GET THERE EARLY?
If you have children that will need to be checked in, we recommend that you try to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the worship service.
What is the style of your worship service?
Every Sunday at LCUMC you will hear a Bible-based message aimed at helping you grow in your discipleship journey. Our Sunday morning worship style is best described as casual traditional. The music is a blend of traditional hymns with more contemporary selections. LCUMC is blessed to have a Sanctuary Choir that presents musical offerings each week, as well as a Handbell Choir that plays monthly. Our Sunday evening contemporary service is led by a Praise Band.
How long are Sunday services?
Usually about 60 minutes.
Do you celebrate communion?
Yes. We take communion on the first Sunday of each month as a way of remembering and reflecting on what Christ has done for us. All believers are welcomed to participate.
